Musical Theatre Choreograpy

So I spent 1 and a half academic years choreographing for Cov Uni's musical theater society. In this time I choreographed 3 shows:

Grease

The Phantom of the Muiscals

Guys and Dolls

I had an amazing time doing it and there where some challenges along the way and it was a really good experience and really helped open my eyes more about what it is like to be on the other side of an audition table and an artistic team, and I had an amazing time! Looking back over some of my choreography videos here are a few of my faves from The Phantom of the Musicals :)

So Luck Be a Lady was the dance I chose for TPOTM and I chose it for the ensemble audition. My insperation was classic jazz and jazz hands, bouncy yet controlled. This choreography works better in a big group. In the show we did verses in sections and the chorus all together, by doing this the choreography had a nice crescendo to it.

Putting on the Ritz was my all boys dance, I had had the idea for this choreography for a very long time (when you hear a song and think yup that's what I'm doing if I ever get to choreograph that!). Putting it together was harder as often whats in your head can be hard to translate in to movement. Only one of these boys had done dance before and I am so proud of all of their progress they made! This video was of our first rehearsal.

So I haven't actually had that much experience in any form of ballroom (asides from FitSteps) So I had to do loads of research for this dance (mainly watching Strickly) But I feel it came together quite well, and this is a video from our first rehearsal :)
