Rooted Dance was formed by Denise Rowe (http://www.balletnimba.org.uk/#/denise-rowe/4542638653) and uses second year dance students from Coventry University.
In this form of art I saw that it was not just contemporary dance that was used, I saw that there was some Caribbean dance and hip hop. Then it occurred to me that you can't actually put a label on dance. If everything was JUST ballet or JUST hip hop it would be a very boring piece, and even if you look closley at classic dances like Swan Lake you will notice that no dance is one pure style. It may be 90% ballet and 10% contemporary but it still is having help from a sister style.
This art work used a vocal collage which is used mainly in abstract theatre work but it helped to show the heritage of the piece. I also liked how they used leaves to help them move - they used the 'Cover the floor with paint on your body' trick that we do in class, however they used leaves and it didn't look as silly as I used to feel when I was doing it and its helping me to understand why we do this.
