It's about the dancer Gillian Lynne and how she grew up and had to persue her dance career during world at 2 and all the other troubles in her life.
Gillian had to travel around the world (encluding UK) during her training, personally I think that is so brave! Learning about world war 2 when I was younger, the though of moving to a different town terrified me!
She also had to stop dancing because of the war for a brief period of time, she discuses how much this hert her, as any dancer will tell you, when you can't dance you really don't feel your self.....
She also discuses war time issues such a rationing, and a big one she talks about is all the men going to war, resulting in there being no orchestra to dance to as they where all at war.
I personally really enjoyed reading this book and I highly recommend it (wheather you dance or not). I loved it as I felt it also liked in with my disssertation and a subject I would like to further reasurch ('do we as humans crave dance as entertainment') as this book demonstraights a history of craving dance for entertainment and discuses escapeisme and it's effects on the economy, troopers and genrle war effort.
